I recently wrote a post about the anti-vaccine movement. Shortly after writing that post I wanted to also explain that not all anti-vaxxers are terrible people. Some are loving parents that have gone above and beyond for their children. Some have experienced unfortunate hardships and are not intentionally seeking harm; they’ve only been dangerously misled. And too often, their misunderstanding leads to inappropriate stubbornness.

The Movement

As mentioned in my post about how vaccines work, vaccines are arguably the single most important medical achievement in history. They have saved millions of lives and continue to do so. For over a century, getting vaccinated against certain diseases was a no brainer. People understood that there is great benefit with little risk.

The past few weeks have been a bit crazy for all of us. People are stuck at home, losing paychecks, losing jobs. People are getting sick, some are dying. The hospitals are getting overwhelmed. Troubling times for sure. I’ve hesitated a bit to write about the COVID-19 coronavirus here because it’s new and our knowledge of it (and recommendations) are changing rapidly. But here is an overview of what I think is the most pertinent information we have currently.
